O'Byrne, Edward G. of Totowa at rest in Paterson on February 14, 2007. Beloved husband of the former Barbara Giliberti. Father of Edward J. O'Byrne and his wife, Victoria, Robert W. O'Byrne, and Kelly M. O'Byrne-Baldi and her husband, John. Edward is the son of the late Edward Joseph OByrne, who was the Mayor of Paterson when he died in 1959 and the late Ruth (nee Abel) OByrne (1976). Brother of William O'Byrne and his wife, Chris. Brother in law of Dr. William and Mrs. Joy Giliberti. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Monday at 8:45 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. James RC Church, Totowa at 9:30 AM. Interment at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. For more information, go to www.festamemorial.com OBITUARY Edward G. O'Byrne age 68 of Totowa died Wednesday. Born in Paterson, NJ he lived in Paterson before moving to Totowa 30 years ago. Mr. O'Byrne received his BS degree from St. Peter's College, Jersey City, NJ in 1959. He received his L.L.B. from Seton Hall School of Law, Newark, NJ in 1962. He received his J.D. from Seton Hall School of Law, Newark, NJ in 1969. He graduated from Northwestern University with courses in criminal defense and prosecution. For five years, he served as an instructor in the New Jersey Supreme Court's "Skills and Methods" course required for admission of all new attorneys. In 1963, he was admitted to the United States District Court of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, and the United States Court of Military Appeals. He was a self employed Attorney in Totowa for 44 years. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the State of New Jersey Bar Association, the Passaic County Bar Association, and the Trial Lawyers of America. In 1967, he was appointed to Assistant Passaic County Prosecutor. In 1968, he was appointed First Assistant Public Defendant for Passaic County, and served until 1970. From 1982-1986 & from 2006 to present, he served as counsel to the Board of Education for Passaic County Vocational and Technical High School. He served on the Paterson Board of Adjustment in 1966. He served as a Passaic County Democratic Freeholder from 1970-1982. He served as Director of the Passaic County Board of Freeholders in 1972, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1981. He was a member of the Passaic County Democratic Committee, and he was currently the Totowa Borough Democratic Leader. He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1963-1966. He served as the Judge Advocate General in the United States Army while on active duty from 1963-1966, and in the United States Army Reserve through 1970. He served with the First Armored Division, Ft. Hood, TX from 1964-1966, the Field Force to Republic of Vietnam during 1966, the Fourth Judge Advocate General, Bronx, NY from 1966-1970. He received the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for his service in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1974. He was a Life Member of the American Legion Post #227, Totowa, NJ and an Associate Member of the Marine Corp League. He was a parishioner of St. James R.C. Church, Totowa, NJ and a member and past Grand Knight of its Knights of Columbus Council #6574. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Msgr. Stein Assembly, Clifton, NJ. He was a member and commander (2003-2007) of the VFW Post #10104, Totowa, NJ. He was the Junior Vice-Commander of VFW District One, Passaic County. He was a member of the Passaic County Emerald Society. Survivors include his wife: The former Barbara Giliberti of Totowa 2 sons: Edward J. O'Byrne and his wife, Victoria of Belleville, NJ Robert W. O'Byrne of Totowa, NJ A daughter: Kelly M. O'Byrne-Baldi and her husband, John of Fairfield, NJ A brother: William O'Byrne and his wife, Chris of Cinnaminson, NJ Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa is in charge of arrangements.
