Obituary of Philip Bevacqua

Bevacqua, Philip age 85 of Totowa at rest in Paterson on May 17, 2015. Beloved husband of 62 years of the former Maria "Mary" Bonagura of Totowa. Loving father of Joseph Bevacqua & his wife, Monica of Wayne, Paul Bevacqua & his wife Diane of Hopatcong, Frank Bevacqua of Paterson, Rosa Marmo & her husband James of Hawthorne, and Phillip Bevacqua & his wife, Jeanine of Washington State. Loving grandfather of Nicole Bevacqua, Joseph Bevacqua Jr., Paula Bevacqua, Philip Bevacqua, Thomas Bevacqua, Robert Smith, Daniel Bevacqua and Amanda Bevacqua. Caring brother of Madeline Carini and Carmen of Elmwood Park. Survivors include his aunt, Rose Bevacqua of Totowa and his cousins Jo Ann E. Marra and Paul of Totowa and Floyd & Marguerite Bevacqua of Brick, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Garfield, he lived in Paterson for most of his life before moving to Totowa 18 years ago. He was a Captain for the Paterson Police Dept., Paterson, and worked there for 26 years before retiring in 1988. Mr. Bevacqua was a parishioner of St. James RC Church, Totowa and member of their Knights of Columbus Council #6574. He belonged to the Italian American Independent Club of Totowa. He was a member of the Honor Legion of New Jersey and the Carnegie Hill Hero Association of Philadelphia, Pa. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He was the first person awarded the key to the Boro of Totowa for Heroism. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. James RC Church, Totowa at 11:15 AM. Entombment at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Paterson. Friends may visit Wednesday 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
