LaPorta, Bernard "Bernie" age 81 of North Haledon passed away at home on August 27, 2024. Beloved husband of Virginia Grosso. Former husband of the late Bernice Capaldo (2008). Loving step-father of Danielle Mastrogiovanni and step-grandfather to Gianni, Luca and Rio. Dear uncle of Gina LaPorta of Cedar Grove and Damon LaPorta of Florida. Grand-uncle of Giavonni Escamilla. Also surviving are several cousins and many friends. Bernie was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam war. He was a music teacher for the North Arlington Board of Education for thirty years before retiring in 2006. He was also a member of the NJEA. Bernie played the guitar for the Happenings from 1966-1972, then with the Emerald Experience and then finally with the Jersey Dreamers (Joe Zisa & Friends). He played baseball with the American Legion Post #187, Paterson, as well as Jordans Athletic Club, Paterson and was an avid NY Giants and NY Yankee fan. He also enjoyed traveling. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Gerard R.C. Church, Paterson at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. Friends may visit on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
