"God bless you, and God bless America," thus begins the obituary of Lawrence P. Duffy.
Lawrence P. Duffy passed peacefully, surrounded by beloved family, at age 92 on July 26, 2024 after a brief illness. He leaves behind his cherished daughter Shirley Arturo and her husband Armando Arturo; his grandchildren: Lisa Lauria, Christopher Arturo, Ryan Duffy, and Kelly Arturo; as well as a great-granddaughter, Cassidy. Two out of his three children, Patricia Gribbin and Lawrence Duffy Jr., are already awaiting Duffy's arrival in heaven. Duffy was born on Welfare Island, NY on June 6th, 1932. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and worked as Passaic County Sheriff's Officer for 22 years. He loved spending time with his family, story telling, and baseball. He was a Commander of the Bernard Armitage Post 360, as well as a member of the Emerald Society and Elk's Club. Duffy's love for baseball resulted in the sponsorship of "Duffy's Boys" baseball teams in Paterson, NJ, for 50 years. In his words, "I always had the philosophy to help kids…giving them something to do to keep them off the streets. I had to help some kids and see them on the field, doing something worthwhile." He also worked as an assistant baseball coach at Ramapo College and Don Bosco Tech. Duffy's sharp wit and caring nature will always be cherished and missed by all.
