Obituary of Mary Ann Philipchuk
Yesterday we lost our beloved Aunt Sis. She took me in as a baby and raised me with her husband (Uncle Nick). I have always considered her to be my mother. I had a very good life because of her love and care, and became the woman I am today through her guidance and support. Mary Ann (nee Soccio) Philipchuk was born in 1920 in Altoona, PA. and just passed a few months short of her 103rd birthday. She moved to Paterson in 1933 and trained as a Nurse at St. Mary’s in Hoboken, NJ. She worked as an Industrial Nurse, a Public Health Nurse and a Pediatric Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Pompeii R.C. Church, Paterson and a frequent Lector at St. Bonaventure R.C. Church, also in Paterson. She was an active member of the Legion of Mary, Paterson for many years. She has been living with me, Christine Romanell, my husband and two boys for the last twelve years after moving from Totowa where she had lived for over forty years. My family consider ourselves very grateful to have had her vibrant, compassionate presence in our lives for such a long time. Thank you for everything Aunt Sis. You will be deeply missed…but will live in all the hearts of the people you have touched with your kindness and generosity.
