Our heartfelt sympathy to the Boland family. Fr. Boland was a loving, dedicated priest who was always there for our family. We spent many happy times filled with laughter and some sad times too since we met at St. George’s in 1963. I was in your first alter boy class, Latin back then. You were the Chaplin for our CYO basketball team and Boy Scout troop. We would knock on the rectory door and you would come out and play basketball and football in the church parking lot. I’ll never forget the night my grandfather died in 1967 and you stayed by his bedside with my grandmother and parents until the wee hours of the morning. Thank you for traveling out to Loretto Pa. to celebrate our marriage at St. Francis U. Thank you for baptizing our 6 children and driving through a snow storm for Cara’s. Thank you for asking Eamon to take Patty and me on a tour of Ireland. He was so much fun and it was a pleasure to get to know his family. We thank you for your friendship, wisdom, Irish wit and being an incredible example.
We will cherish our visit with you 3 weeks ago and your smile when you realized the Mass for Fr.Jackie was for St. Patrick’s Day next year.
You have spent your entire life bringing people to God and you did a wonderful job. You will be in our hearts forever.
Our Love,
Patty and Bob McGrady

Msgr. Boland to most, but affectionately known as, “The Jolly Green Giant” to his St. George’s students, and that he was…. always jolly, giant in stature and in heart and green as his homeland. Thank you for officiating our marriage, thank you for your stories, your jokes, your wisdom and for being such a man of God! Sleep among the angels dear Fr. Boland and sincere condolences to your family whom you always spoke so highly of!
