Born to Italian immigrants, Giovanni and Giulia Soldovieri, he attended local elementary schools and was President of the first graduating class of Passaic Valley High School in February 1941. John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He went on to obtain his BS degree in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from Seton Hall University and his MBA degree in Economics from New York University. He founded the Soldoveri Agency, a Property and Casualty Insurance business, in Totowa, which he operated as a principal for 45 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a Licensed NJ Real Estate Broker and maintained that license until his death. Following his retirement from the Real Estate and Insurance business, he founded Great Falls Bank, which later became Greater Community Bank, in Totowa and remained its Chairman until he retired in 2002. He was also an active member of the Serra Club and the Knights of Columbus. He established and funded The John L. and Grace P. Soldoveri Foundation, a charitable foundation that has been providing contributions primarily to benefit the local community.
