How could anyone get me to "pass" a statistics course at Rutgers? Bring in Pat Di Pillo (many-many years ago!)---and that was the beginning a lasting friendship.
Whenever we "bumped" into each other it was as old friends. A friendly hello, a brief talk about the current events and of course culture.
My last "bump" was when my wife and I met Pat, a number of years ago at Lincoln Center: we were going to the philharmonic and he?...I guess it was the opera.
Such talent; such knowledge; such an individual. God surely blessed our small world with such a great guy.
I think I know where I will "bump" into Pat the next time & I hope it isn't for a long--long time.
God bless Pat and his family. He was (is) such a great person.

Dear Pat,
I know you tried to get me to appreciate opera in a language other than Italian, but I'm still mainly fond only of arias by Puccini and Verdi. Maybe one of these days I'll develop a taste for the German.
However, no matter what happens, I want you to know that when I do go to or listen to the opera, I will cherish the memory of the warmth of your smile as you shared excerpts with me from the librettos you kept nearby.

Although technically not my uncle, "Uncle Pat" was always a wonderful friend and "uncle". Always quick with an encouraging word, he showed me nothing but respect and love. The ultimate Rutgers and Mets fan, he will be missed by the so very many people like me who's lives he touched.

Dr. Di Pillo always brightened Baruch's halls with his gentle spirit and ever-present smile.
Many times I witnessed his helpfulness and patience with his students. He always seemed to have a kind word for me whenever I passed his office on the way to visit another computer professor.
I will best remember Dr. Di Pillo resplendent in his bright blue academic regalia at Baruch's Commencement ceremonies!
Sending sincere sympathy and prayers to Dr. Di Pillo's family members and friends at the loss of a truly wonderful human being.

His lessons in statistics prepared me to pass the CQE exam, but more important than that he gave us all lessons in team spirit and commitment. My favorite memory was when I was teaching a class for inspectors and we came across a very badly worded statistical question. I could not answer it for them, but told them I knew where to go for help, I was sure I was missing something. When I showed him the question his response was "never try to get even with idiots-you'll always lose" This was his way of telling me that the book was wrong and I should trust myself and my training. I cherish that memory among many others.

Pat was a giant of a man, a true friend, and a quality guru extraordinaire. I cannot imagine never seeing again. Our ASQ Chapter will never be the same without him.

I was thinking of Pat "The Pillow" today and my very fond memories that went beyond Baruch where Pat was a prof and I worked in the Stat lab. Pat was my wife's teacher at Baruch.
I remember one of Pat's favorite jokes...."Who was purple and conquered all of Europe"...Alexander the Grape! Pat attended my wedding in France in 1976 as a "member of the family". The pictures he took there were better than the professional we hired and we still have and cherish them today 44 years later. he saw a woman at the wedding and he kept telling me "oh..she looks like Bridget Bardot" oh oh.....
Pat was one of a kind, the last time I saw him was in 2000 when he took me to see Patterson Falls, and we lunched together in a diner. We miss him very very much and I think of him often.
