Obituary of Augustine D. Reid
Please share a memory of Augustine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Reid, Augustine "Gissy" D. (nee Adams) of Haledon, surrendered herself to her Lord on October 16, 2011 at the age of 69 after fighting a ten year battle with Leiomyosarcoma. Gissy was born to Emilie (nee Pikora) Adams and David Adams on September 2, 1942 in Sanford, Maine. She was the oldest of four children, and remained close with all of her beloved siblings; David Adams of Belchertown, MA; Rita Bergeron of Springvale, ME; and Wilbrod Adams of Springvale, Maine. Upon Gissy's move to New Jersey she met and fell in love with Paterson native, James P. Reid. They married on July 1, 1967 and remained constant and faithful companions for 44 years. Gissy and James had two daughters, Tara Herman of Westbrook, Maine (wife of Dale Herman); and her other daughter, Jamie Ellen Reid of Keasbey, NJ (fiancé of Lonzo Morrow). Gissy was an active member of St. Paul's Church in Prospect Park, volunteering her services for CCD, Pre-Cana, RCIA, and Couples Club. She was also a Life Member of the PTA. Her true joy was spending time with her grandchildren, Douglas and Augustine Hannah Herman, and watching their achievements in music and dance (respectively). She was lucky enough to have a true friend for life in Shirley Rumore - the two spoke every day and were even together at the time of Gissy's passing. Her luck did not end there, as she had other family and friends she held close to her heart, including Dorothy and Jennifer Scott and far too many more to list. Gissy will be truly missed by all who knew her, but she was looking forward to being together with those who had gone before her, including her parents, Ellen Morgan, and James Scott. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Friday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Paul's Church in Prospect Park, at 10:00 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum, Totowa. Friends may visit Gissy on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Gissy would prefer for donations to be made to the Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research Fund at www.LMSDR.org.
