Balfe, Harry age 88 of Totowa, formerly a long time resident of Upper Montclair at rest in Wayne on January 24, 2011. Beloved husband of the late and former Judith Huggins (2002). Loving Father of Jennifer L. Magazin and her husband Emilio of Totowa and Thomas J. Balfe of Sarasota, FL. Grandfather of Logan Magazin and Landon Balfe. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. he lived in Upper Montclair for most of his life before moving to Totowa in 2006. He attended Poly Prep and Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He persued a career in politics by volunteering on election campaigns for various political candidates which eventually led to a Law Degree at Catholic University where he earned a Juris Doctorate with honors. Mr. Balfe then became the Wrestling Coach at Montclair Academy before becoming a Professor of Political Science for Montclair State University for twenty six years before retiring in 1988. Mr. Balfe was a WW II Army Air Corps veteran who received the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a dedicated member of the Unitarian Universalist Cogregation, Montclair. He was also a member of the Danforth Club and the Dunworkin Club both in Upper Montclair. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Interment at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa. Friends may call Wednesday 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of New Jersey, 400 Broadacres Drive, 4th Floor, Bloomfield, N.J. 07003 would be appreciated.
