Golzio, Ralph John passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 103 years old surrounded by his dedicated and loving daughter and son-in-law Linda and Tony Sous of Mahwah. Also survived by his daughter Thea Jones and husband Harold and family. Born on October 20, 1909 to Caroline "Carrie" and Giovanni Golzio, Ralph was educated in Paterson and went on to Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, graduating in 1932 with a Mechanical Engineering degree soonafter which he worked for Wrights Aeronautical rising to Project Engineer where he met and married his beloved wife Betty (Glatt) in 1941 with whom he had a "match made in heaven" relationship for 43 years until her passing in 1984. In 1947, Ralph founded Engineering Associates, Inc., Union City and enjoyed a distinguished career as President and CEO of his consulting form retiring in 1987. Among his other accomplishments, he was Chief Power Plant Engineer for Allied Chemical and Dye Corp., NY, and President of Precision Gears Company, Paterson, NJ during which time he manufactured mechanisms for attack submarines and torpedo automation for Electric Boat, Groton, Ct. Ralph was an avid sportsman living out his philosophy "play as hard as you work to achieve balance of mind and spirit" and traveled the world fulfilling his passion for adventure. Throughout his life, Ralph retained a remarkably sharp mind. At 98 he challenged himself by informally studying quantum and nuclear physics and willingly shared his knowledge. Ralph was every man's hero. He was an elegant and eloquent man of honor and integrity and all who were drawn in by his magnetic persona were struck by his compelling sense of purpose which was as strong as his gripping handshake. He truly served as an inspirational beacon of longevity and it was a privilege and honor to have known him. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Festa Memorial Funeral Home 111 Union Blvd., Totowa. Burial at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, NJ will follow an 11:00 AM service at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 16, 2013.
